  1. Bob Stack says:

I send sincere sympathy on Eddy’s passing. I found out of his passing just today and apologize for not having attended his service. I worked with Eddy as a Police Officer at U Mass Lowell and I can assure you that he was a genuine and kind man. A gentleman that I enjoyed working with but more importantly a man I could call a friend.

Eddy was fond of his heritage, his Fighting Irish and his dedication to those around him. I recall Eddy’s excitement when Gerry Adams was the featured speaker at a U Mass Lowell graduation ceremony, as well as his dedicated participation in Local 25 issues and the little kid excitement he brought back after attending a Notre Dame game in South Bend.

Eddy’s time with us was far shorter than it ever should have been but I am sure that there was a bigger plan for Eddy. I am also sure that a man like Eddy finally reached his pot of gold.

    Rest in Peace Eddy

    Bob Stack

  16. JoAnn Beissel says:

I am without words in the passing of my great friend Ed. My first encounter with Ed was many years ago when he came in to the Notre Dame Police Department where I worked during one home game weekends. I was lucky enough to share my season tickets with him. Thus began a great friendship with both he and Marian. When I visited my family in Boston, Ed, Marian and I always got together. When he came in for a football weekend, we would visit the Grotto which Ed confessed to me,that while he loved Notre Dame football and the stadium, the Grotto was his favorite place on campus.

I feel blessed that our paths in life have crossed. I shall always remember his infectious smile, kindness and the wonderful friendship we have.

My prayers are prayers and love are with all of Ed’s family. God bless you all. May our Lord shine his face upon you and give you peace during this difficult time.

  17. Tom Irwin says:

To Ed’s family, I offer my sincerest condolences. I still remember getting an email from Ed Irwin several years ago saying: “I think you are my cousin”. He was sure right about that; our Grandfathers were brothers. This Irwin family has its’ roots in South Boston but like most American families we have spread all over the country. I communicated with Ed on countless occasions but never actually met him in person although my wife and one of my daughters did manage to meet “Cousin Ed” in Southie several years ago. My wife assured me that he was as nice in person as he seemed in our communications. God Bless you Ed and may you rest in peace.

    Your Cousin,
    Tom

  19. Diane nyren says:

To all of the Irwin family, my sincere sympathy to you all. Eddie was definitely a special favorite cousin of mine. I enjoyed all our chats, and they always involved us saying “that’s the Irish in us”! I’m so thankful that my sisters and I got together with Eddie and Rebecca not long ago. I will miss him dearly. Eddie was a special guy for sure.
