Mary J. Roddy, 99, of Chelmsford

 

Mary J. Roddy, 99, of Chelmsford formerly of Lowell died surrounded by her loving family at her home on early Friday, November 24, 2017.
Born in Lowell on May 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Michael F. and Esther A. (Carter) Roddy. She graduated from St. Michael’s School and Lowell High School with the class of 1936. Mary continued her education by taking secretarial courses at the Hickcox Secretarial School, and accounting courses at LaSalle University.
In her earlier years, Mary worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the State Auditor’s office, Adams Distributors, and WMEX radio station. She later worked for General Telephone & Electronic (GTE) which merged with General Dynamics, from which she retired.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Parish of Lowell; before moving to Chelmsford in 2002 and becoming a communicant of St. Mary Parish of Chelmsford.
Mary was past president of the ladies division of Mt. Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell. She also held memberships with the League of Catholic Women, Lowell and Chelmsford Senior Centers, Village Belles Red Hat Society, Seton Guild, and General Telephone Quarter Club. Mary enjoyed playing cards and golf, travelling, reading, and jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by two sisters, Brenda Roddy whom she resided in Chelmsford, MA, and June Connors of Lowell, MA, a brother, John “Jack” and his wife Joanne Roddy of Chelmsford as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Raymond and Madeline Roddy, the late Eileen Pelton, and the late Esther Crowley.

At her request there will be NO Visiting Hours. Funeral Tues at 10am from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11am at St. Mary Church in Chelmsford, MA. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. Memorials may be made in her name to a charity of one’s choice. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.
