As Maria’s sister and brother-in-law, it’s hard to watch up close how much Patrick’s loss is felt by Maria & Hayden. It reaffirms how loving and supportive a husband and father he was. As you look around, there are so many reminders from the funny and thoughtful Christmas gifts he picked out himself to the weekends eating seafood at Petey’s to a last minute call for help w/ something around the house. Those reminders are meaningful because Patrick was always just a 5 minute call away no matter what he was doing. He was always up for helping or just a quick ride to de-stress at the beach. Those gifts of generosity and kindness are why he is so sorely missed by many with similar stories to share. There’s no explanation of why God takes those who are truly selfless, pure, and of good morale character. People who give to others and don’t expect anything in return for their kind acts. I can only hope that we can be for Maria and Hayden what Patrick has been for all of us. Like one of Patrick’s most memorable wedding day songs, he lived his life as a “simple man” but one with extraordinary love for his family and friends and a spirit that will never die. Until we meet again some day, and you come to greet us all, good-bye for now my friend.

Hayden and our daughter met in first grade. Patrick was the first person to give me a smile during pick-up at school, and we easily fell into conversations. Has there ever been a happier and more welcome smile? Hayden was my daughter’s first real friend at Byam, and our families have been close ever since. Through Patrick, Hayden and Maria, we have met other amazing families and created a special extended family of our own. Patrick helped me through our own difficult time, and we will always be grateful. He was a fantastic father, an amazing husband and one of the best friends we have ever had. He was a rock for so many of us. We all feel for Patrick’s family and hope they know we will always be here for them. We love you Maria and Hayden.

    His Journey’s Just Begun
    By Ellen Brenneman
Don’t think of him as gone away
    his journey’s just begun,
    life holds so many facets
    this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
    that we could know today
    how nothing but our sadness
    can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.

Until we meet again dear Brother.
