Charles “Chuck” Costopoulos, 77, of Tyngsborough, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on November 17, 2024, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Beth Costopoulos, with whom he shared a loving marriage for 47 years. Born in Lowell, MA, on February 25, 1947, he was the son of Harry and Catherine (Georgiades) Costopoulos.
Chuck was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1964, and served with the U.S. National Guard. He enjoyed a long career with National Grid, retiring in June 2022 after 50 years of service, starting when the company was known as Lowell Gas Company.
A true family man, Chuck was devoted to putting the interests of his children first. He attended every sporting event whether as the coach or a cheering spectator. He also loved being with his grandchildren. “Papou” could be heard echoing throughout the house as each one couldn’t wait to show him their newest toy, share a story, or take him outside to play. He cherished hosting family holidays and always looked forward to cooking for the ones he loved. Being in the kitchen was one of Chuck’s greatest joys.
In addition to his love for family, he loved the simple things in life, a bourbon with one ice cube, sometimes two, a walk around the neighborhood, Friday date nights with his wife, a good book in his favorite chair, and playing catch with his grandkids. He will be deeply missed and will forever be in our hearts.
Chuck is survived by his son Matthew Costopoulos and his wife Brenna of Nashua, NH; daughters Stephanie Lavallee of Goffstown, NH, and Catherine Almeida and her husband David of Merrimack, NH; sisters Diane Braga and her husband Robert of Haverhill, MA, and Marina Costopoulos of New Orleans, LA; and his beloved grandchildren, Cohen Costopoulos, Brayden and Parker Lavallee, and Landon and Beckham Almeida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as in-laws Susan Chenell, Mark, Michael, Margo, Sean (Kellie) Ready.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Cancer Unit at Lowell General Hospital, D-CAT staff at D’Youville, and friends Harry Chambers, David Whelan, and Tommy Mulligan for their care and support.

Though I’ve only known Chuck a few years. we established a connection and I knew from our first conversations what a loving and caring man he is. Especially at Matt’s wedding when he gave me a big hug and a kiss! We were soon to head down the same road with different treatments, always sharing encouragement and hope. I’m so glad I met him. There is no doubt in my mind that my friend Chuck certainly got the keys to the Kingdom and is singing with the Saints! Love Harry Chambers and family.

Mary Beth, Matt,Stephanie and Catherine,
There are no words that can describe the pain of your loss. Chuckie truly loved you guys. We would talk over coffee or our many lunch breaks, one thing that I remember is that he was so very proud of his children. Yes, he told me what he was cooking for your family dinners. He was a good man and I will miss but I will never forget him. Brian Sepe
