Barbara Marie Silva of Lowell


5484 SilvaBarbara Silva of Lowell, MA, 82, died Tuesday morning, March 24, 2015 at Wilmington Health Care Center in Wilmington, MA.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Leavitt. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1949.
Barbara was the rectory caretaker and chef for St. John the Evangelist Church retiring in 1997. She had previously worked for the Courier Citizen of Lowell.
Barbara was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford, and formerly of St. Margaret Church in Lowell; where she was a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality.
A lifelong resident of Lowell, she enjoyed cooking and dancing as well as visiting the New Hampshire seacoast especially the beaches of Hampton and Rye.
She is survived by two daughters, Valerie and her husband Armando DeAngelis of Stoneham, and Pamela Silva of Lowell; a son, Richard Silva of Woonsocket, RI; a sister, Marilyn and her husband Paul Moody of Barrington, RI; a grandson, Marc DeAngelis; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Suzanne Silva.

Visiting hours Thurs. 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral Fri. at 10AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. Memorials may be made in her name to the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston, 51 Sleeper St., Boston, MA 02210.     I’m very sorry to learn that Mrs. Silva has passed. She was a big figure in my life while growing up on Stevens Street. She was a Very, very funny lady who had lots of stories to tell. I also have many fond memories of visiting “Gum and Gump” on Bradstreet Avenue. I smile as I think of them all reuniting. Rest In Peace, Mrs. Silva and may God strengthen and comfort your children who I’m sure are brokenhearted.
