Doris Melvin of Tyngsboro
Doris Marie (Mawn) Melvin, age 82, died peacefully surrounded by family. Born in Boston, grew up in Dorchester & lived in No. Quincy and Marshfield before moving to CA to help raise her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David. She is survived by her children, David and wife Karen, James "Mick" and wife Linda, Tom and wife Barbara, Mary and husband Steve, Bill and partner Laura, 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly. She was an avid Red Sox fan and never lost her Boston accent, attitude, wit or Irish humor. Her greatest joy was vacationing at Humarock beach with her family. She had a deep Catholic faith and devotion. She was a Marian Helper. She supported the church and many charities, including volunteering at foodbanks/thrift shops and helping those less fortunate. Her favorite charities were St Vincent de Paul, and the Interfaith Foodbank. Wherever she lived, she touched the hearts of all that met her. She was a woman of many talents: devoted housewife, fantastic cook, Nursery School aid, Elementary crossing guard, wedding cake decorator, caterer, and the neighborhood "Ma". She drove like a bat out of hell, she loved to sneak rides on motorcycles, and helped push start more than one of her children's jalopies. No visiting hours. A celebration of life will be held on Oct 17 @ noon at St Christine’s Church in Marshfield.
