Earl C. Batson of Chelmsford, MA
Born in Somerville, MA on Nov. 30, 1924, he was the son of the late Linwood and Edna Batson. Earl grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1943.
During World War II, he served in the US Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for injuries he received at Anzio, Italy and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Earl was employed by the US Postal Service in Boston, MA and raised his family with his wife Leona in Lexington, MA.
After retiring from the USPS in 1979, Earl and Leona moved to Tyngsboro and eventually settled in Chelmsford. They traveled across the US and other locations around the world. They loved camping, cruises, and spending time with their family at their cottage in Maine.
Earl was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and the Lexington Elks. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Chelmsford Senior Citizens Center and with members of the Senior Billiards Team
He is survived by four children, Earl Jr and wife Linda, of Groton, MA, Virginia Turpin, James Batson and Susan Whitman; brother Donald and his wife, Vera Batson; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Leona, son Edward and brother, Carlton.
The family would like to thank the doctor, nurses and all staff members for the wonderful care he received during his stay at the VA.
Visiting hours Monday 4 to 8 p.m. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, MA. Funeral Tuesday at 10 am from the Funeral Home with a Mass at 11 at St. Mary’s Church in Chelmsford, MA. Burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers a donation in his name may be made to Disabled American Veterans P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 which was one of his favorite charities.
