Fred Alvin Choate of Tyngsboro, MA


Fred Alvin Choate, 99, of Tyngsboro, MA died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Lowell General Hospital from injuries after falling at home.

He was married to the late Ruth E. Choate, who died on July 13, 2017.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Lillian and Harry Choate. He attended Rensselaer High School in NY.

He proudly served with the U.S. Army during WWII attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He retired in 1980 from Mass Electric as a linesman after 32 years of service. In his early years he worked with his father and brother, Charles with Electric Line Construction and was a Tyngsboro Volunteer Fireman. He also served as the elected Tyngsboro tree warden.

Fred was a member of the Tyngsboro Evangelical Congregational Church.

He was a member of the Pentucket Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Lowell. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, an Aleppo Shriner, and a 70 year member. Fred was a life member of Tyngsboro Sportsman Club.

He is survived by one son, Richard Choate and his wife, Elizabeth of Tyngsboro; one daughter, Janet Fontaine and her husband, Henry of Dunstable; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

He is the father of the late James Choate who died in 1984, father-in-law of the late Joyce Choate who died December 6, 2017, and grandfather of the late Steven Choate. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Choate and his sisters, Norma Lever and Edith Choate.

Visiting hours Mon. 9:30 – 11:30 A.M. with a Funeral Service at Noon at the Dunstable Congregational Church, Main Street  Dunstable, MA. Burial in Central Cemetery, Dunstable.
