Andrew J. Garside, 78, of Westford died Tuesday March 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was married to Beverly (Matthews) Garside with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 12.
Born in Lowell, MA, he was a son of the late John and Gertrude (Berger) Garside. He graduated from Lowell Trade School with the Class of 1954 and attended Lowell Technological Institute.
He worked as head custodian for the Westford Public Schools at Westford Academy, before retiring in 2002. In his early years he worked at Fletcher’s Quarry in Westford, and Barretto Granite in Milford, NH.
Andrew enjoyed playing cribbage and working on automobiles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and long drives with his wife. He was very generous and willing to help everyone.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Kenneth Woods, Deborah and Paul Taverna all of Westford, MA; five brothers, John and Doris Garside of Londonderry, NH, Alfred Garside of Westford, MA, Carl and Lillian Garside of Westford, MA, Robert and Myrtle Garside of Westford, MA and Edward and Josephine Garside of Pepperell, MA; three sisters, Lillian and Stanley Oganowski of Pepperell, MA, Gertrude Patenaude of Portsmouth, RI and Linda and Michael Muller of South Reading, VT; four grandchildren, Bryan and Noreen Woods, Jessica and Derrick Bennett, Keith and Kimberly Taverna, Andrew Taverna and his fiancé, Meghan Crawford.
He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Walter Garside who died in WWII, Charles Garside, Ralph Garside, Eleanor Buckjune and Doris Phelps.
Visiting hours Thurs 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 Middlesex St., Chelmsford, MA. Funeral from the funeral home on Friday at 8:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church 115 Middlesex St. Chelmsford. Burial Fairview Cemetery, Westford, MA .
