Albert George “Bert” Scaplen, 84, of Westford, MA passed away peacefully Thursday, May 2, 2024 surrounded by family.
He was married to Patricia (Jelley) Scaplen with whom he had recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 25th.
Born in Cambridge, MA he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine (Carey) Scaplen Sr.
Bert graduated from Chelmsford High School with the class of 1957. He was quite an athlete lettering in Football, Baseball and Basketball. After high school, he went on to earn degrees in Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University. He was a member of the United States Air Force Reserves being honorably discharged in 1968. Bert enjoyed a career of over 30 years with the Xerox Corporation, retiring in 2001.
Bert was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed playing a round of golf with friends and family. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nine grandchildren. Bert was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed sharing with anyone a good “dad joke”.
Besides his wife, Bert is survived by his daughter Susan and husband Scott Stelmack of Pelham, NH and his two sons and their wives; Michael and Lena Scaplen of Boylston, MA and Kevin and Laura Scaplen of Westford, MA; his two brothers, Jack Scaplen of Chelmsford, MA, and William and Laurie Scaplen of Gray, ME; his nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristin, Matthew, Thomas, Kyle, Jessica, Kaileigh, Nikita, and Alex as well as his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister in law Patricia Scaplen, and Brother in Laws Michael, Raymond, Donald and Joseph Jelley.
