Bennie Gene Cooper, 77, a longtime resident of Lowell, MA, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Lowell General Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma (Thompson) Cooper, who passed in 2019. Born in Nash County, North Carolina, Bennie was the cherished son of the late Izear Cooper and Margaret Battle. He attended schools in the Edgecomb County school system of North Carolina.

Bennie enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, retiring from Raytheon in Andover in 2009. He was a member of the Free Masons, and in his free time, he found joy in playing golf, watching horse racing, and listening to soul music.

A devoted father and grandfather, Bennie leaves behind his daughters Jennifer Freeman and her husband Brian of Methuen, MA, Belinda Williams and her husband Curtis of Washington, D.C., and Danette Cooper-Paquette of Lowell, MA; his son Bennie D. Cooper and his wife Sarah of Townsend, MA; and his stepson Victor Thompson of Manassas, VA. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Lynch and her husband Bruce of Rocky Mount, NC, as well as 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Bennie was predeceased by his companion Jean Glejzer, his sisters Dolly Mae Matthews, Marie Battle, Mamie Vick, Carrie Smith, and his brothers Isiah, James, and Robert Cooper.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Bennie’s visitation will be Monday, Sept. 23, 2024 from 9:30-10:30 A.M. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, MA. Burial in Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell, MA.  ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.
