Carol Anne (Evans) Leonard of Lowell, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023 after a brief illness. Carol was born on April 29, 1940 to William and Ruth (Nison) Evans. She was the loving and dedicated wife to John (Jack) for over 56 years until his death in 2021. She was also older sister to Dick and Billy Evans who preceded her in death.
Carol was a proud life-long resident of Lowell. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1958 and then attended the St. Joseph’s Hospital School for medical records technicians. Carol went on to work in medical research at the Harvard School of Health from 1959 to 1966.
Carol was a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Parish and, prior to its closure, an active member of St. Joseph’s Lithuanian Church. Throughout the years, she served on various committees at both churches, wherever she was needed. A steady volunteer, Carol taught CCD, was involved with Girl Scouts, the Friends of Lowell High School, LHS Class of ’58 reunion committee and Catholic Daughters.
Carol enjoyed all things family and devoted her life to caring for others. She was the consummate homemaker and welcomed all into her home. Generous with her time, she was always available to lend a helping hand or provide a sympathetic ear, and she relished her role as a second mom to anyone who needed some advice or a holiday meal. When the grandchildren arrived, she orchestrated a summer beach week each year filled with big meals, games, and laughter. Her four grandchildren were her pride and joy and she reveled in their accomplishments and milestones. In addition, Carol was an avid reader and note writer and enjoyed sending cards to family and friends for all occasions.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Karen Allen and husband Kevin of Cromwell, CT; her daughter, Donna Crowther and husband Rich of Redlands, CA; her four grandchildren: Kai and Mikayla Allen, and Carly and Richie Crowther. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: MaryLou Malencik of Nashua, NH and Dorothy Evans of Lowell, MA, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Carol’s amazing neighbors, Billy Daly and Michelle and Jim Camacho. Their unwavering love and support allowed Carol to remain comfortably in her home of 53 years following Jack’s passing.
Carol’s visitation will be on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET, N. CHELMSFORD, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish, 75 Chamberlain St., Lowell. Burial in Lowell Cemetery. Karen and Donna, your mom was one of the best. Kind, generous, caring. There are pieces of her in all of us, that live on for sure, not just in memory but in deed. We only get to keep our loved ones for awhile. That’s God’s gift to us. I wish he didn’t have to take them back, but another angel needs to come to earth to be given to another family. She gave you each other. She will be waiting for you, arms wide open. My thoughts are with you both. Deb Huber
