David W. Smith, 68, of Tyngsboro, MA died on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was married to Barbara B. Smith with whom he celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on March 29, 2015.
Born in Melrose, MA he was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy Smith and brother of the late Frankie Smith. Dave graduated from Reading High School with the class of 1965 and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemistry from Lowell Technological Institute. He worked as a chemical engineer for the Gillette Company for 33 years in Andover, Boston, and Reading, U.K., where he made lifelong friends. He retired in 2007.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.
Dave was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America since 1986, and was a founding leader of both Pack 46 and Troop 46 in Tyngsboro. He devoted many volunteer hours to Toys for Tots, IMEC, and the AARP tax preparation program in Tyngsboro.
Besides his wife, his family includes a son, Daniel Smith and his wife, Jessica Sprangers, and his granddaughter, Alexis Smith of Burlington, a son Greg Smith and his partner, Renee Eriksen of Monterey, CA; Jackie Hayes, wife of his cousin the late Woody Hayes, and their family, Kim and Kevin Williams, Donna and Weldon Green and Mike Hayes and his daughter Bailey, all of New Brunswick, Canada; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pearl Brooks and the late David Brooks of Hudson, NH, Marilyn and Jim Gourley of Sheridan OR, Tom and Sue Brooks of Chelmsford, and Jack Brooks and the late Ann Marie Brooks of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours Sun. 2 to 6P.M. Funeral Mon. at 8A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.
