Elsie Porter, 94, longtime resident of Chelmsford, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Town and Country Nursing Home in Lowell.
She was born April 21, 1921 to Walter and Florrie (Hughes) Massey in Dracut, MA. Elsie was married to the late Harold Porter for 65 years.
Elsie attended the Dracut and Lowell schools. She worked as a mill girl, a waitress (YWCA), and at the S&H Green Stamp Redemption Center. Her joy was singing in the church choir with her sisters and dad at Fellowship United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and served Him well.
She enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with her family and Bingo with her friends.
Elsie loved her time at Town and Country, where she was treated with love and affection by all. There she was presented with several commendations for her “helpful services” in the dining room. The family is very thankful for the kindness shown to her by the staff.
Elsie is survived by her children, Harold W “Sonny” and his wife, Patricia Porter of Lowell, Gail Lochran-McNeil and her husband, Joe McNeil of Chelmsford, Judy and her husband, Tom Reilley of Mesa, AZ, Wayne and his wife, Debbie Porter of Epsom, NH, and Gary and his wife, Michelle Porter of Townsend; 13 grandchildren, Wendy, Merri, Sonny, Brenda, Bryan, Diane, Allen, Ben, Leanna, Randy, Shawn, Jenna, and Becky; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, sisters, Emily Buckley, Margaret “Peggy” Cronin, and Edith Cutrumbes and grandson, Jon Porter.
Visiting hours Sun. 1 to 4 P.M. Funeral Mon. at 9A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral service at 10A.M. at the Lawrence Street Primitive Methodist Church, Lowell, MA. Burial in the Edson Cemetery, Lowell. Sorry to hear of Elsie’s passing.
Way back when, I was there to watch the sister’s meet and greet at Edie’s house, usually on Sunday afternoons,
always a fun time.
A lovely family, she will be missed.
