Evelyn Claire Armstrong of Chelmsford, MA

Evelyn C. (Patenaude) Armstrong, 90, of Chelmsford passed away at home on early Thursday morning, May 4, 2023 after a year of declining health.

She was married for 40 years to the late Francis (Frank) J. Armstrong, Sr who died September 20, 1996.

Evelyn was born in Lowell, MA and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Yvonne (Marcotte) Patenaude. She was a graduate of St. Jeanne d’Arc elementary school, Keith Hall and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.  She went on to receive her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Saint Louis University.

Evelyn and her husband raised four children while moving around the United States due to his work for R.J. Reynolds.  They lived over 20 years in St. Louis, MO but would enjoy summers at their Seabrook Beach, NH house. Upon retirement they loved to travel and resided in both Seabrook Beach, NH and Sarasota, FL.

Evelyn was an avid bridge and mahjong player.  She took up golf after retirement when Frank bought her a set of golf clubs as a Mother’s Day present.  They were members of both Mount Pleasant Golf Club, Lowell, MA and Sunrise Golf Club Sarasota, FL.

Evelyn was a very faithful person and was a communicant of the Holy Rood Catholic Collaborative of St. Mary Parish of Chelmsford, MA.  She always had a strong dedication to St. Jude and enjoyed saying the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily.  If she was unable to attend Mass in person she enjoyed watching on live-stream or watching the Catholic TV channel.

Evelyn is survived by her three sons, Francis J. Armstrong, Jr and his wife, Ronda of Winston-Salem, NC, Brian W. Armstrong and his wife, Karen of Chapel Hill, NC, Mark P. Armstrong and his wife, Anne of Chatham, NJ and a daughter, Donna M. Armstrong of Chelmsford, MA; two sisters, Dorothy Patenaude of Lowell, MA and Linda Patenaude of Hudson, NH; two sisters-in law, Mary (Kelley) (Patenaude) Higgins and Claire Armstrong of Lowell, MA; seven grandchildren, April Bozada-Armstrong and her husband, Ryan Haynes, Lauren (Armstrong) Brown and her husband, Thomas, Mary Jordan (Armstrong) Coleman and her husband, Christopher, Paige (Armstrong) Frost and her husband, Steven, John Armstrong and his wife, Marlee, Mary Claire (Armstrong) Meszaros and her husband Michael, and Elizabeth Armstrong; three great grandchildren, George and Blaire Coleman, Charlotte Frost and a fourth due to be born this summer; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evelyn was the sister to the late Raymond Patenaude; sister-in-law to late Raymond J. and Dorothy Armstrong, Walter L. Armstrong, aunt to late Patricia (Patenaude) Mahoney and Michael A. Patenaude, Sr.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Visiting hours Sun., May 7, 2023 from 4 to 7pm. Funeral Mon., May, 8, 2023 at 8am from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET, CHELMSFORD, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9am at St. Mary Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford.  Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA.  Memorials may be made in her name to the Catholic TV, PO Box 9196, 34 Chestnut Street, Watertown, MA 02471.
