Gail (Shawcross) Colella, 84, of Chelmsford, MA died surrounded by her loving family at her home on Thursday, December 29, 2016.
She was married to William A. Colella with whom she celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on August 24th.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Royal and Nellie (Butterfield) Shawcross. She graduated from Chelmsford High School with the class of 1950. Gail earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Hampshire.
Gail retired in 1993 from the Peabody Public Schools where she was a middle school Home Economics teacher.
After her retirement, she was a Legal Advocate for HAWC (Help for Abused Women and Children) in Gloucester, MA and was a volunteer for the Wellspring House in Gloucester, MA.
Gail was an avid reader and loved traveling and spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale of N. Chelmsford, the Beacon Hospice, and Joanne Fontaine of Proeldercare for their dedication and compassionate care to Gail.
Besides her husband she is survived by her son, William “Biff” and his wife, Pamela of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Lee Ann and her husband, Robert Alden of Westford; grandchildren, Alexander Dinola, Joseph Alden and William Alden and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Lee Shawcross of Chelmsford and Carol Grunditz of Medford Lakes, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Beacon Hospice, 13 Branch Street #100, Methuen, MA 01844
