Gerald A. Martin, 80, of Chelmsford, MA died surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital.

He was married to Mildred Martin with whom he celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on January 27, 2017.

Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jeanette Martin. He graduated from Keith Academy with the class of 1955 and from Lincoln Electric Welding School in Cleveland OH.

He proudly served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Price DER 332 patrolling the Rhine River in Germany.

Gerald worked as a welder. He retired from the Pipefitter’s Union Local 537.

He was a communicant of St. Mary Church and a longtime resident of Chelmsford.

Gerald was a member of the Lafayette Club of Lowell and the Stony Brook Sportsman Club of Westford.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motorhome.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Gerald A. Martin of Braintree; two daughters, Tracy (Martin) Caron of Haverhill and Brenda (Martin) Vasquez of Chelmsford; a sister, Elizabeth and her husband, William Countre of Danvers; seven grandchildren, Gerald Martin, Kylie Martin, Jack Martin, Joseph Caron, Jake Caron, Cameron Vasquez and Ava Vasquez and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Roger Martin of McDonough, GA.

There are no visiting hours. A funeral Service will be held on Mon. at 9:30AM at St. Joseph Cemetery’s Chapel, Riverneck Rd. Chelmsford. Memorials may be made in his name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Boston, 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD 978-251-4041.

    So sorry to hear about Gerry’s passing. Gerry taught me what you could by achieve simply by working hard. He was a great man and I enjoyed working for him at his welding business in Chelmsford.
