Hyacinth Elizabeth McKenna (MacLean) of Hollis, NH, formerly of Dunstable, MA, passed away peacefully at her home on October 9, 2024, after a long illness.
Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Mary (MacEachern) MacLean. Hyacinth met James P. McKenna, then from Billerica, Massachusetts, at a church dance while Jim was visiting his family in Nova Scotia. They married in 1964 in Nova Scotia, then moved to Massachusetts where they had six children, three boys and three girls. They moved to Dunstable and lived a full life together entertaining friends and family, camping and traveling until Jim’s death in 1997.
Hyacinth truly enjoyed living life to the fullest. She found joy in going dancing, taking care of her home and yard, driving her convertible, and simply talking with her friends and family. She was always up for a cup of tea or a game of cards. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed entertaining with all welcome at every holiday. She was an avid tennis player fueled by the wonderful women she played with and her competitive edge. Hyacinth loved spending time with her grandchildren and walking her granddogs. She had a huge heart and was truly a caregiver to family and friends.
Hyacinth is survived by her three daughters, Hyacinth and Marc Bellerose of Hollis, NH (Nathan, Sophia, and Julia), Yvonne and Todd Poindexter of Port St. Lucie, FL (Todd and Tyler) and Joyce and Michael Hillis of Hollis, NH (Colin and Brendan), and her three sons, James and Donna McKenna of Port St. Lucie, FL (Miranda, Kasandra, and James), Todd and Lisa McKenna of Mt. Pleasant, SC (Madison) and Edward and Jennifer McKenna of Port St. Lucie, FL (Edward, Benjamin, Jordan, Taylor, and Kendall). She is survived by her sister, Margaret Donovan of Mason, NH, her brother Donald and Beverly MacLean of Dunstable, MA, her brother-in-law, George MacDonald of Antigonish, NS as well as four great-grandchildren, her many nieces and nephews, her husband’s extensive and caring family as well as her wonderful friends.
Hyacinth was preceded by her sister, Catherine MacDonald, and her brother, Ronald MacLean. Hyacinth was also tragically predeceased by her cherished granddaughter Britney Lee Poindexter.
