Jacquelyn “Jackie” D. (Carkin) Matthews, 89, of N. Chelmsford, MA died Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Northwood Health Care Center in Lowell.
She was married to the late Thomas G. Matthews, who died on Nov. 27, 2005.
Born in Chelmsford, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Mildred Carkin. She was a graduate of Chelmsford High School with the class of 1943.
She worked for the Southwell Woolen Mills in N. Chelmsford.
Jackie was a very active and lifetime member of the N. Chelmsford Congregational Church. She worked at the Bean Suppers and taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She loved to make afghans for local shelters.
She was a member of the Klaxon Antique Auto Club of Dracut and the Chelmsford Senior Center. Jackie volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels for many years as well as organized many fundraiser event meals for several organizations.
She is survived by three sons, John and his wife, Erin Matthews of Brockton, MA, James and his wife, Shari Matthews of Shirley, MA and Timothy and his wife, Kathy Matthews of Amherst, NH; two daughters, Cynthia and her husband, Frank Blake of Gilmanton, NH and Tami and her companion, Tom Murray Sr. of Nashua, NH; a sister, Sandy Ostman of Merrimack, NH; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Joyce Mason of Pelham, NH, Richard Carkin of Dunstable, MA, Lee Carkin of N. Chelmsford, MA and Bruce Carkin of Lowell, MA.
A special note of thanks go out to the kind and loving staff members at Northwood Rehab & Nursing Facility that cared for her during her stay there. As well as to the people from Hospice of Massachusetts for their continued support and love.

To the Matthews family: I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother and grandmother. I have fond childhood memories visiting Dawn, at her grandparents home.
