Jeanne M. (Guson) O’Brien, 85, of N. Chelmsford, MA died early Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA after a brief illness, surrounded by her family.
She was married to the late George W. O’Brien Sr., who died on October 7, 2010.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Laura (Michael) Guson. She graduated from Cathedral High School with the class of 1956.
Jeanne retired from the Hawthorne Suites in Chelmsford in 2006. She previously worked at Papa Gino’s Restaurant in Lowell. In her early years, she worked for Atty. John Cremens and Atty. Alex Welch both of Boston as a legal secretary and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Food and Drug Division.
She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church of N. Chelmsford, where she taught CCD and volunteered with the Colonial Girls Fife and Drum Corps.
Jeanne was an avid Red Sox fan. She enjoyed traveling to Ireland with her husband and Fr. Robert Nee. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nineteen grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, George Jr. and his wife, Robin O’Brien of Litchfield, NH, Michael and his wife, Maria O’Brien of Litchfield, NH and Kevin and his wife Sue Ellen O’Brien of Merrimack, NH; four daughters, Susan Kelly of North Reading, MA, Kathleen and her husband, Robert Dyer of Litchfield, NH, MaryBeth and her husband, Michael O’Keefe of Tyngsboro, MA, and Patti and her husband, Ken Goodwin of N. Chelmsford, MA; nineteen grandchildren, Caitlin, Brendan, Erin, Danny, Ethan, Aidan, Owen, and Aileen O’Brien, Sean and Deirdre Kelly, Scott, Meaghan, Colin, and Molly Dyer, Jimmy and Katie O’Keefe, Kenny, Janna and Nicholas Goodwin, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many friends.
She was the sister of the late Gladys Guson of Boston, who died September, 1988 and the late Dolores Perry of Virginia Beach, VA who died May, 2023.
Jeanne’s visiting hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024 from 3 to 6 P.M. Her Funeral will be Thurs., Jan. 11, 2024 at 8am from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST. N. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9am at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, N. Chelmsford. Jeanne, was a lovely woman. I had the privilege of knowing her while at St John’s, sharing many of their activities. I always remember when you asked her about her family she had a big smile & proudly spoke of them. Jeanne will be missed by many.
