Jennie Gloria Lewis, 95, of Tyngsboro, MA, formerly of Brighton, MA, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at Lowell General Hospital.
Born in Boston, and raised in nearby Brighton, MA, Jennie was the daughter of the late Loretto and Ida (Giordano) Cocuzzo. Brighton was near and dear to Jennie’s heart; after graduating from Brighton High School in 1947, she remained a long-term resident and raised her 10 children within the community. She retired from the Boston Police Department, where she had served the public as a dedicated crossing-guard.
Jennie had a genuine love for classic Hollywood films, preparing traditional Italian meals for her family and friends, and spending quality time with those she loved. She will be remembered for her eternal compassion, timeless class, and the unconditional love she bestowed on those close to her. Jennie had many roles throughout her life, the most important being her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she cared deeply for every member of her family, and was always too eager to provide care, comfort and any act of service to make their lives easier. She was known for saying, “I may not have a lot of money, but my family makes me the richest woman in the world.”
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Riley of Tyngsboro, Ann Lewis of Arlington, and Marie Lewis of Brighton; her sons, Paul Lewis and his wife Ellen of Scituate, Donald Lewis and his wife Sharon of Bourne, Gary Tobin and his partner Julie of Winthrop, Howard Lewis and his wife Marie of Townsend, Scott Lewis and his wife Marianne of Watertown, and Keith Lewis of Plymouth. She is also survived by her brother Larry Cocuzzo of South Yarmouth, MA. Jennie was affectionately known as “Nana” to 21 grandchildren, and “Great-Nana” to 22 great-grandchildren, as well as an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Cheryl Ryan, daughter-in-law Susan Lewis, brother Joseph Cocuzzo, and sister Angelina Houlihan.

To the magnificent Lewis family whom I’ve known since I was a boy, I want to express the most profound condolences at the passing of the Absolute source of that Magnificence, the Beautiful Jennie Lewis, the best neighbor and maternal angel one could ever hope for….
There are few words to describe how amazing Jennie was to everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Even Heaven is now a brighter warmer and lovelier place as she has joined my great parents and so many others who have gone before her.
To all my Lewis family friends who I love so deeply I say;
Your (our) Beautiful Jennie shall live on in all our Hearts and be that Special Maternal Angel carefully watching over you every moment for Eternity
God Bless and Godspeed
