John Bernard Snyer, 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Friday evening July 30, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was married to Ann Marie (Colbert) Snyer with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on April 8, 2021.
Born in Arlington, MA, he was the son of the late John B. and Nora Snyer.
John graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1959. He graduated with honors from the United States Park Police Academy in Washington DC and studied Law Enforcement at Northeastern University.
John proudly served with the US Army from 1963 – 1969 and he was a dedicated member of the Bedford Police Department, serving the community for 38 years.
John was a loving father and husband who put his family first above all things. He enjoyed gardening and shared the bounty of his garden with friends and the less fortunate. John loved to drive, and he and Ann Marie experienced many wonderful road trips in the U.S. and Canada, and even in Ireland, which was a proud feat.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Kristyn McKenna, her husband William of Dracut, MA and the McKenna children, Matthew, Sean, and John McKenna and Emily Gosselin; by his son John B. Snyer III and his wife Lesley of Hermon, ME; and two grandsons, John B. Snyer IV and Michael David Snyer of Hermon, ME; his sister Gertrude Snyer of Hampton, NH; his father-in-law Joseph E. Colbert of Wilmington, MA; brother-in law Ronald Colbert of Wilmington, MA; sister-in-law Virginia Abbott Colbert of Tewksbury, MA, and a large extended family.
Visiting hours Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD. Funeral Friday, Aug. 6, 2021 from Dolan Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 11a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Chelmsford. Burial in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford, MA.
