John “Jack” C. Vaillancourt, 81, died peacefully at his home in Groton, MA on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.
He was married to Nyola Vaillancourt with whom he wouldhave celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on November 1, 2015.
Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late Arthur andMildred Vaillancourt. He graduated from the Vocational High School of Lowell.
He proudly served as a paratrooper engineer with the U.S. Army and was in the Naval Reserves.
Jack worked as a union carpenter for thirty six years and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local Union 111 for sixty years. He retired from the Groton Dunstable Public Schools where he worked as a mail carrier. He was a former member and officer of the DLKV Lithuanian Club.
Jack was a craftsman who lived almost his entire adult life in a house he built himself. In their twenties he and his wife bought a corner lot in Groton and some building plans for a custom contemporary home. All of his spare time and a lot of sweat and tears went into this house. Finished in 1976, it is a truly fabulous cathedral ceilinged and redwood paneled showpiece home. Almost all the work was done exclusively by him, with help, at times, from his family and friends. He enjoyed nature and international travel but yet his needs were basic. He was the kind of man who was grateful for even the simplest things. He was not one to complain. His greatest pride and joy was spending time with his family.
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Mark and his wife, Terisa Vaillancourt of Hamilton, VA, Erik and his wife, Lisa Vaillancourt of San Jose, CA and Kurt and his wife, Denise Vaillancourt of Morgan Hill, CA; daughter, Renee and her husband, Eric Lantz of Tyngsboro; two sisters-in-law, Carol Vaillancourt of Dunstable and Ramona and her husband, Paul Kosciolek of Lowell; brother-in-law, Robert and his wife, Elaine Romanauskas of Lowell; eleven grandchildren, Irie and Yanna Lantz, Kara, Lana, Luke, Jacob, Joshua, Talia, Saskia, Katia and Thor Vaillancourt and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Donald, Robert, Clifford, Roland and Gerald Vaillancourt, Elinor Bernier and Shirley Rock.

I may not be physically able to be with you, Nyola, but I will be with you in mind and spirit. We had so many good times in our youth when I lived with your wonderful grandmother. Jack was a wonderful person and I know God will comfort you in this traumatic time. With Love, Patsy

I spent many a Christmas afternoon in the house that Jack built. It is open and welcoming, just like Jack was to me, a New Orleanian in a snowy wonderland. To Nyola and all the family, I offer my deepest condolences on your loss. I mourn the death of this good and gentle friend, and also celebrate his life. God speed, Jack Vaillaincourt. You will be missed.
