John P. Hickey, 88, died August 13, 2015 surrounded by his family. John was the husband of the late Joyce (Casey) Hickey who died on Saturday, August 1, 2015. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2015.
He was born in Lawrence the son of the late Edmund J. and Mary (Igo) Hickey. He graduated from Lawrence High in 1945, enlisting in the Navy. He was assigned to an Aviation Radioman School in Memphis, Tenn. When the war ended, he served in various naval stations and was discharged in 1946.
He enlisted in the Naval Reserves upon discharge and in 1950 he was called to active duty serving aboard the USS Mississippi as a Radioman 2/C; he was discharged in 1952.
He went to work at several local banks serving as the branch manager at the Lowell Institutions for Savings and the Union National Bank before joining Baybank Middlesex in Chelmsford. He retired in 1990 as a Vice President.
He was active in many local organizations, namely Chelmsford Lions Club, serving as president in 1974-5. Among other civic organizations, Chelmsford Chamber of Commerce, serving as president, member of the Home Builders Assoc. and a life time member of the Chelmsford Lodge of Elks.
Mr. Hickey lived in Chelmsford since 1963 and was a communicant of St John the Evangelist Church.
He was a graduate of Bentley College in 1958 and attended many banking schools over the 37 years of banking. In his retirement, he was an employee of AccuTax (formerly the Tax Man) of No. Chelmsford.
He enjoyed Golf, the Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by a daughter Barbara wife of James Kelleher of Enfield, NH, a son, Daniel husband of Cary Hickey of Sandown, NH, and daughter Susan wife of Robert Eldridge of Portland, Oregon. He also leaves two brothers William Hickey of Salem, NH, and Edmund Joseph Hickey of Lawrence MA. He was also the brother of the late Catherine Hickey Dudley of Salem, NH, and James Hickey of Los Alamitos, CA.
Nine grandchildren, Kristen, Kathryn and James Kelleher, Erin McCabe, Daniel and Kyle Hickey and Nathaniel, Evan and Brett Eldridge and two great grandchildren Liam Eldridge and Emmett McCabe as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are Wed. 3 to 7:00 PM Funeral Thurs. at 10:00 AM from the Dolan Funeral Home 106 Middlesex St, Chelmsford MA, with a funeral mass at St John the Evangelist Church at 11:00 AM. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Chelmsford. Memorials may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.

So sorry to learn Uncle Jack passed away. It must be especially difficult so soon after Aunt Joyce. I’m sure he is in heaven now with his beloved wife, Grandpa and Grandma Hickey, my Dad, and Aunt Catherine. May the peace which comes from the happy memories of love shared comfort you now and in the days ahead.

Barbara, Dan and Sue – so sorry to hear about both Mom and Dad, so soon after one another. Jack and I connected a few years back when he did my taxes. Such a sweet man! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Susan, Bob, and Hickey family – we are sorry to hear of the loss of your father Jack. We always enjoyed visiting with Jack and Joyce during their trips here to Portland. We will continue to enjoy the great stories about Jack and your family going forward.
