Joseph John Carelli, Sr., 91, of N. Chelmsford, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was married to the love of his life, Mary Ann DeVincenzi, for 68 wonderful years. Mary Ann (Divi) was his whole world. Joe was born in Lawrence, MA, the son of Joseph Paul Carelli and Claire Visone.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School and immediately following his graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Hark during the Korean War conflict. Joe had a fulfilling career as a production manager at Raytheon, Computer Vision, and Merrimack Magnetics.
Soon after they married, Joe and Mary Ann settled in N. Chelmsford, where they raised their four children and lived in the same home for every day of their beautiful life together. Joe was proud of skills at maintaining his lawn and enjoyed his time golfing at Nabnassett Lake Country Club. His children remember dad’s expertise on the grill, but for Joe, he enjoyed most of all, the wonderful meals that his wife prepared. He traveled extensively with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Donald Williams. Joseph loved his family dearly and cherished the large and often loud family holiday gatherings and never missed an opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was quick with a joke, even though the same few were told over countless times, and his bright smile and infectious laugh would light up the room.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann, and his children: his daughter, Dawn Marie Carelli and her significant other Gregory Brown of N. Chelmsford, MA, his son, Joseph J. Carelli, Jr, and his wife, Paula, of Hollis, NH, and his daughter Dale Brigham and her husband Scott of Hudson, NH. He is pre-deceased by his son, Paul M. Carelli and his wife Dianna, formerly of Hudson, NH. He also leaves behind his nine grandchildren: Jonathan Manolakis of Townsend, MA, Alexandra Carelli of Nevada City, CA, Christine Carelli of Truckee, CA, Devon Carelli of Greenpoint, NY, Rachelle Fiorentino of Merrimack, NH, Kyle Brigham of Nashua, NH, Kendall Brigham of Marlborough, MA, Alexander Carelli of Manchester, NH, and Kimberly Carelli of Haverhill, MA. Joseph was also a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren: Giada, Giuliana, Gabriella, Sophia, Brody, Selene, and Ella.
Joseph John Carelli, Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

To Mrs. Carelli and family: very sorry to hear about the passing of your beloved husband and father. Please, accept my sincere condolences. After moving away from Main Street, I was no longer privy to your daily walks and his ebullient personality. Having a French name, he was always surprised that I had Italian blood running through my veins. I smile, when I think upon his answer; I knew there was something I liked about you. He was a good man and a fine gentleman. I will remember him as such. May the beautiful memories you all hold of a loving husband and family patriarch carry all of you but well. And may he rest in an Eternal Peace. J.P. Lambert, Tewksbury MA

Joe was one of my favorite patients when I worked at Harvard Vanguard in Cardiology several years ago. Even after I left I ran into him and he said Heather where did you go I miss seeing you. He was a wonderful person and my heart breaks knowing he is no longer here. Sending my thoughts and prayers to his family. Rest in peace and love Joe.

The Carelli’s lived just a few houses down from me on Aberdeen Road. They were a wonderful family and I would often see Mary Ann walking in the neighborhood. One of their daughters was friends with my oldest daughter. My deepest condolences to the family of Joe and Mary Ann.

No matter the number of years that have passed since I’ve lived in the neighborhood, the memories of the families I grew up around remain very strong. Joe was a striking man, vivacious and friendly. You, Mary Ann, beautiful and kind. Both of you so devoted to your family. Dawn, Joe, and Dale, I envy the many years your dad was able to be with you.
