Joyce Isabel (Bellwood) Abrahamson died on Monday, November 25 at Lowell General Hospital, at the age of 96. She is survived by her son, Robert W. Abrahamson and his wife, Julie, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and her daughter, Gayle Jaillet and her husband Roger of Gardner, Mass. She is survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Brennan and his spouse, Stephen May Brennan as well as Marisa Slawiak and her husband, Josh. She leaves five great-grandchildren, JJ (Joshua), Michaela, Andrew and MaryElizabeth Slawiak and Patrick Brennan. She is survived by her nephews, Gerald Abrahamson (Debbie) and Walton Bellwood (Diane) as well as her niece, Gail (Bellwood) Holliman. Joyce’s husband, Robert, predeceased her in 2010. Also predeceasing her were her brothers, Bartholomew and Leslie Bellwood and her parents, Eliza and William Bellwood.
Joyce was raised in North Chelmsford, MA and graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1946. Soon after, Joyce met Robert at the taxi cab stand where they both worked. Love blossomed and they married in 1946, a happy union which lasted 64 years. Robert always questioned how he got “the prettiest girl in North Chelmsford” to marry him! During their marriage Joyce was a devoted wife and mother while, at the same time, held various office manager positions until her retirement in 1990. She also obtained her real estate broker’s license and, with a partner, had her own real estate business. She also volunteered at the Chelmsford Senior Citizen Center for 25 years.
Joyce was always on the go and lived life to the fullest. She was an avid dog lover and in addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed bowling and playing golf and had been given the honor of being the longest living member of the Nabnasset Lake Country Club in Westford, MA. In later years, she and Robert loved to travel, particularly to Las Vegas and to Robert’s POW reunions. Joyce was a wonderful person and a good friend and in return, she was blessed with many, many friends
Joyce always looked on the bright side and her kindness, spirit and positive attitude served as an inspiration as well as a positive role model to all that knew her. Hers was a life well lived.
Joyce asked that any donations be made in her name and sent to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St., Lowell, MA. 01854.
