Kathleen “Kathy”Callahan of Lowell Kathleen “Kathy” (Tansey) Callahan, 63, of Lowell, died unexpectedly on Friday December 30, 2016 at Lowell General Hospital.
She was the wife of Retired Lowell Police Sergeant Richard Callahan with whom she recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on November 5, 2016.
Born in Waltham, she was the daughter of the late James and Joan(Montbleau) Tansey. She was a graduate from Chelmsford High School with the class of 1971, and UMASS Amherst with Bachelor’s in English with the class of 1975.
Kathy worked as a private home health aide in the greater Lowell area. She previously worked at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell, MA as the head of medical records.
Kathy was an amazing woman who loved all her children’s friends as her own. She always opened her doors and her heart to those who entered. Her grandchildren were her life. She loved them beyond words.
She was a fighter who lived her life daily on seeking justice for her two children killed in August of 2014.
Kathy had an amazing fashion sense, having an outfit for every holiday and a sweater vest to match as well. She decorated the home with just as much love and laughter for each season and holiday. She even did the occasional dance routine to spread cheer.
Besides her beloved husband, she is survived by, a daughter, Christine E. Callahan; a brother, James Tansey and his wife, Janice of Ashby, MA; a sister, Karen Bush and her husband, Lawrence of Nashua, NH, her lifelong friend Peg Gay and her husband Tim from Londonderry, NH; five grandchildren, Erik (17), Rian (13), Kaleb (8), and Joseph Jr. (3) and Richard Callahan (2), she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Kathy was predeceased by her two sons, Keith and Joseph Callahan who both were killed on August 10, 2014.
Visiting hours Thurs. 3 to 7 P.M. Funeral Fri. at 8 AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Chelmsford. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041.
