Kevin John Shield, of Chelmsford, MA, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2022. Beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Kevin is survived by his loving family, his wife of 27 years, Maura (Cahalane) Shield; his children, William and Mariah Shield of Chelmsford; his father, Philip Shield of Burlington; his brothers, Mark Shield and wife Karen of Burlington and Brian Shield and wife Brenda of Andover; his in-laws, Bill and Mary Lou Cahalane and sister-in-law, Noreen Cahalane all of West Harwich. Loving uncle of Michael, Stephen, Ryan, Jennifer and Jessica. Son of the late Mary Ellen (Lyons) Shield.
Kevin graduated from Burlington High School and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. He spent most of his career at DECCO, Inc, working his way up from project manager to president and owner. He was instrumental in making DECCO one of the leading and most respected mechanical contractor companies in New England. While still serving on the Board of Directors, Kevin stepped away from a full-time role with the company in 2020. In retirement, Kevin was excitedly pursuing a hobby he had loved as a teen, rebuilding engines and restoring cars. His most recent project was the restoration of a 1970 GMC Jimmy. Kevin enjoyed spending time at his house on the Cape. He was a jack of all trades and in recent years had helped transform the back yard into an outdoor oasis. When not working on his house, Kevin could be found on his boat, fishing off Monomoy or beaching it in Stage Harbor or the Bass River. Kevin was always up for an adventure and loved to travel, domestically and internationally, including bi-annual peer group trips which brought him and Maura across the country, multiple trips to Ireland, and most recently a camper van trip down the east coast.
Visiting hours Sunday, July 31 from 1-5 PM at Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex Street, N. Chelmsford, MA. Funeral Monday, August 1 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Church, 25 North Road, Chelmsford, MA. I worked with Kevin, at DECCO, for 15 years until we both retired, around the same time (stepping away gradually). This news was a complete shock for me and I am very sad- especially for all grieving family members and friends. What an immense loss! I have so many good memories of Kevin from our days at DECCO and it was a privilege for me to have known him and worked with him. May God keep him.

Kevin was introduced to me over 25 years ago through Maura at our Boston College Football tailgates. Kevin and I had great discussions on all of the topics described about his interests and passions. Although our contact was seasonal (at the tailgates) I felt I knew him in a larger way that friends do; as he was my kind of guy – friendly, genuine, and always interested in me and my family. I will miss you brother Kevin and you will always be present with us at Chestnut Hill and the Cape.
