Lillian Alta (Trubey) Dowd, 97, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2021 at D’Youville Senior Care. She is reunited with her beloved husband of 50 years, Francis Morgan Dowd, who passed away in 1997.
She was born in North Chelmsford on September 21,1924, and was the daughter of Clarence A. and Katherine M. (Heckbert) Trubey. Her parents owned and operated The Trubey Nursing Home. Lillian helped care for the elderly patients alongside her mother who was a nurse. She was predeceased by her sister and four brothers who she missed and loved dearly. She always loved reminiscing about her childhood years with them.
Lillian also worked in the parachute division at the Lowell mills. She told of enclosing small notes of encouragement to the boys serving our country. She met her husband Morgan who moved to North Chelmsford for employment. He served in WWII and upon his safe return they married in 1947 and made Chelmsford their home.
Lillian’s gifts were many; playing the piano, oil painting, crafting, crocheting and gardening. Unquestionably, her biggest gift was being a devoted wife and dedicated mother. She and Morgan simply loved sitting outside on the deck feeding and watching the many birds and animals that frequented. Being true nurturers, there was never a plant or tree that they couldn’t find a spot for in their beautiful yard. Outdoor projects were often a family affair ending with banana splits for all! Our hearts are filled with so many memories, not sadness.
Lillian was everything a mother should be, loving, humble and compassionate. Her greatest love was her family and unselfishly put their needs first. She welcomed everyone with a beautiful smile and kind words to her warm home. She had an amazingly strong constitution by which she led a long full life. She was a beautiful soul and we feel fortunate and blessed to call her our Mom.
She is survived by her children Joan I. Monahan of Salem, NH, Brian D. Dowd of Chelmsford, MA, Gail D. Bentley of Kearsarge, NH and Kathleen A. Dowd of North Chelmsford, MA, and by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A special Thank You to all who touched Lillian’s life at D’Youville Senior Care and Merrimack Valley Hospice.
