Mary T. (Doherty) McCann, 91, of Chelmsford died Thursday morning, December 30, 2021.
She was married to the late Alfred D. McCann, who died on March 20, 2004.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Gertrude Doherty. She was a graduate of Keith Hall High School.
Mary was one of the co-founders of the ABC Child Care Center in the late 1960s. Following, she started
one of the first industrial child care centers at Wang Laboratory Corporation and worked as their Child Care Director. She finished her working career at Massachusetts Electric Company.
She was a faithful communicant of St. Mary Church in Chelmsford, St. John the Evangelist Church in
Chelmsford and the Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua, NH.
Mary was an avid Red Sox fan; watched every game, knew all the players and their statistics. She enjoyed Bingo, dining out and shopping. Mary loved spending time with her family and friends and was thrilled and surprised by her family with a 91st birthday celebration this past October.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary and her husband Kevin Hillyard of Hudson, NH and Margaret and her husband Russell Brown of Nashua, NH; a son, James and his wife Katrina McCann of Groton, MA; a daughter-in-law, Natalie McCann of Chelmsford; eleven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late William McCann, and the sister of the late Gertrude Meagher and Margaret Chateauneuf.
A private Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wed., Jan. 5, 2022 St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Mary McCann to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
