Maryanne McMahon Mungovan, 59, of Dunstable died Tuesday Nov. 8, 2016 at the Lowell General Hospital after standing up to cancer for over 13 years.
She was the wife of David Mungovan with whom she celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on Feb. 5th.
Born in Lowell on July 27, 1957, she was the youngest daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Sullivan McMahon. Maryanne grew up in ‘The Acre’ section of Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1975. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education & English in 1979 and her Master’s Degree in Reading and Language from the University of Lowell in 1984.
Maryanne spent many years as an Instructor at the English Learner Institute at Middlesex Community College (MCC). Most recently, she was an inspiration to students, faculty and staff every day as the Director of Multicultural and Veterans affairs at MCC. She began her career teaching fifth graders at St. Patrick’s School and the Pollard Memorial Library in Lowell.
She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Chelmsford.
Besides her husband she is survived by her only daughter, Kaitlyn E. Mungovan of Dunstable; her brother, Michael McMahon of Kittery Point, ME and her sister, Maureen Bilodeau of Kittery Point, ME; two nephews and a niece, John Paul Bilodeau, Gina Armienti and Brad Armienti.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Maryanne M. Mungovan Memorial Scholarship Fund to benefit a deserving MCC student. Visiting hours Monday 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11:00 at St. Mary Church 25 North Road, Chelmsford. Burial in Central Cemetery, Dunstable.

Maryanne was one of the most amazing woman I have ever known. She was a fighter for many causes and had one of the biggest hearts ever! She would do anything for you and would be there to support you before you hardly knew you needed help. I will never forget the determination with which she fought cancer. I will miss her but will make sure her light in this world will continue to shine.

Oh Mrs. Mungo! You had such a tremendous impact in our lives! Your kindness, your generosity and your sense of humor touched us so deeply and will be with us forever. We are incredibly thankful for your friendship, your example, and for always bringing the best in us. For a few years now you have been part of our daily prayers, and is really a moment that we treasure. A few minutes every day to thank God for someone like you and ask him to always keep you happy. Deepest condolences to David, Kaitlyn and Family from the Dublin end of the Wider Horizons Program, on the death of dear Maryanne. Every year, at the start of our Program, Maryanne’s smiling face would greet us at the Prepare to Attend College event in the Middlesex Community College; and for the rest of the group’s stay in Lowell, she was a continuing support and presence in our Program. One of the hardest parts of growing older is when you learn that people you know have passed away. I only learned that Maryanne had passed away this week. We worked together for many years at the Pollard Library. I remember going to barbecues on the lawn at the house on Bachelder St., lunches at the Library with Donna Deuso, Lela Boykins and others, and when I photographed Dave and Maryanne’s wedding. Maryanne was so excited to hear that my wife and I were having our daughter, as were we when she was pregnant. She will always hold a special place in our lives.
