Ms. Alice Marie (Coutu) Kelley, 85, of N. Chelmsford, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 at Lowell General Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Lowell, MA on August 28, 1929, the daughter of the late Alfred and Marie E. (Prive) Coutu. She was raised in Lowell and attended Lowell Public Schools. She also attended Middlesex Community, Rivier, and Newbury Jr. Colleges.
She was employed as a Quality Coordinator for more than 20 years in the USCI Division of C.R. Bard Company in Haverhill until her retirement in 1996. Following her retirement she was an active volunteer with the Flu Clinic, W.I.C., Fuel Assistance Programs, as well as various duties at C.T.I. Inc. She was also an usher at the Merrimack Repertory Theater, Memorial Auditorium and Lowell Historic National Parks.
She was a member of Chelmsford Senior Citizens Club where she also served on the Friends Board of Directors. She was the Chairperson of the Massachusetts Ways & Means Committee for ten years.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathleen M. Kelley of Lowell, Barbara and Mark Bell of Sudbury, MA; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Jr. and Carole Kelley of Gilmanton, NH; two sisters, Laura Fuller of Lowell, Gertrude and her husband, James Flaherty of Maine; a brother, Charles and his wife, Joan Coutu of Hazlet, NJ; a sister-in-law, Katherine “Bunny” Coutu of Dracut, six cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Heather, Lily, and Annie Kelley, Jonathan, and Alex Bell, three great-grandchildren, Madeline, McKenzie, and Benjamin Kelley, as well as many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
She was the sister of the late Rita Shelton, Claire Caldwell, Arthur, Leo, Robert and Edmond “Gus” Coutu.
There are no Visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be Thurs. at 11AM at St. Joseph Cemetery’s Chapel, 96 Riverneck Rd., E. Chelmsford, MA.
