Paulette L. Grout, 75, of Tyngsboro, MA passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Life Care Center of North Billerica.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Doris Grout.
She graduated from Chelmsford High School with the class of 1967 and spent many years working for Digital Equipment Corporation and Fidelity Investments. Along the way, she earned both Teaching and Paralegal certificates as well as a B.A. in Political Science from UMass Lowell. Paulette substitute taught locally for several months before retiring.
Paulette was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Chelmsford, MA, and faith was extremely important to her. Paulette dreamed, more than most, of what could be and strived to find the positive in life. She also believed in giving back whenever possible and volunteered occasionally at the Nameless Coffee House in Cambridge. Throughout her life, Paulette was extremely interested in politics and our democracy. For three years she volunteered for one week during the summer as an instructor for Presidential Classroom, which is unfortunately now a long-missed program in our nation’s capital. High school students from across the country would descend upon Washington D.C., eager to learn. Paulette was ready for them, and she was truly in her element.
Paulette also enjoyed playing folk music on her guitar and loved to write, especially poetry. The following poem was written by her when she was in her early twenties.
“If Heaven Were to Reach for Me”
If heaven were to reach for me, I would not care to go.
To leave behind me mountains of wondrous peaks of snow.
How can I begin to tell of precious things I love,
Things I’m not so sure exist so far, far above.
Flowers in the springtime, grass beneath my feet,
Laughter of true friends, so simple yet so sweet.
Walks along the seashore, clouds of billowed white,
Stars that shine above me, to beautify the night.
If heaven doesn’t hold these as part of happiness,
Then far away eternity I’m sure to never miss.
Paulette is survived by her brother Alan Grout of N. Chelmsford; sister Andra and her husband Marc Lamarche of N. Chelmsford; her cousin David Clement and his wife Debbie of Nashua, NH; one niece and several nephews. Paulette is also survived by several dear friends: Colleen Bognet, Otie Harpin, Barbara Smith, Della Wickens, and Linda Ligouri, all of whom helped her to traverse life’s most difficult final journey.

Hi, Joe. Thank you for sending your condolences. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how you knew Paulette or our family. If I had to guess, I’ m thinking that there might be a CHS link. Would you send me quick note back?
Thanks, Andra

I didn’t know Paulette very well or for very long but whenever we met I was impressed by her spirit and gracious attitude despite the health issues. May she Rest in the Peace that passes all understanding and may the Holy Spirit comfort Anne and Marc as they mourn her passing.

Hello Jim and Diane.
I have no doubt that you would have been at Paulette’s services. After all these years, I might not have recognized you, but then, you probably wouldn’t have recognized me. How quickly the years catch up and take over. Thank you so much for your condolences.
