Richard Gerard Lemieux, 80, of Westford, MA, died Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Hospital in Bedford, MA.

He was married in 1970 to Jeanne (Martineau) Lemieux with whom he was very seldom apart.

He was the son of the late Gerard and Jeannette (Boucher) Lemieux.

Richard was a Vietnam Vet, 716 Military Police, born on April 3, 1943 in Salem, NH. One of 9 siblings, he moved to Pelham, NH at 6 years old, growing up helping on the farm, milking cows, plowing, haying and gardening. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t repair.

He worked at Bolton Emerson and Lawrence Pumps.

Richard loved his family and was always the target when his sons’ friends came over, whether it was water balloons or paintball or camping.

He had a deep devotion to Jesus and the Virgin Mary, and was often found praying the rosary and reading the Bible. He was a Eucharistic Minister for 45 years. He was very humble, generous, giving to many charities especially starving children. He was always willing to help others in need.

Richard also volunteered over the years with the Cameron Senior Center, Pregnancy Care Center, Wish Project, Middlesex Shelter in Lowell, and St. Vincent de Paul.

After a long battle with dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes, all caused by Agent Orange, he always tried to stay positive.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Paul Lemieux and his wife Leah, James Lemieux and his wife Monique; six grandchildren: Tom, Dan, Adam, Caroline, Andrew and Jeffrey; his eight siblings; Jeannette Lemieux, Irene Groulx, Therese and her husband Maurice (Skippy), Loraine and her husband John Reale, Diane Brine, Roger, Roland and his wife Denise, Robert, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Dennis Groulx.

At his request, causal dress for his services.

My condolences to the Lemieux and Martineau families. Dick appears to have been a devoted family man and a volunteer who helped others in many different capacities. He went to Vietnam as a young man and later suffered from the effects of Agent Orange as a lot of young, unsuspecting servicemen did. It’s a sad story from very sad times for our servicemen. What is striking, though, is that despite those stressful, wartime experiences and subsequent medical challenges, he lived his life carrying a generous, loving spirit towards his family and others. It’s fitting, perhaps, that he has passed and will be remembered during the Memorial Day period.
