Robert “Bob” Middleton McEvoy, 86, of Westford, MA – Beloved husband, father and grandfather, lovingly known as Bob, Dad or Grampa. Bob passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA on March 24, 2024.
Bob was born on July 8, 1937, in Lowell, MA to the late Caledonia (Middleton) and Albert McEvoy in Lowell, MA. He grew up in North Chelmsford, graduating from Chelmsford High School in 1955. Bob worked at the First National Grocers for 27 years followed by 20 years as a Commissary Officer at Hanscom Air Force Base where he retired. He also served in the Coast Guard.
Bob loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. Bob was an avid walker for 30 plus years with his best buddy, the late George “Butch” Dee. Bob also enjoyed golf, puzzles and wearing theme-oriented suspenders. He was a big sports fan. Bob enjoyed following the Boston sports teams and watching March Madness. His favorite thing to do was to watch his grandchildren in their sports and activities, as their biggest fan as well as support them as they pursued their professional careers. Bob was also a handyman always ready and willing to help as needed.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Gabrielle “Gay” (Haley) McEvoy whom he was married to for 63 years. He is also survived by his four children, Donna and Michael Capillo of Nashua, NH, Dennis and Renée (Chandonnet) McEvoy of Dunstable, MA, Albert and Cathy (Carroll) McEvoy of Wilmington, MA, and Michael and Cheryl (Burke) McEvoy of Fort Collins, CO.
Bob was most proud of his nine grandchildren: Cory McEvoy and his wife Adri Jackson, Casey McEvoy, Brady McEvoy, Haley McEvoy and Bryan Royal, Anthony and Brooke Capillo, Ryan McEvoy, Benjamin McEvoy, Ashley Capillo and Billy McEvoy.
Bob was the beloved brother of the late Janet and Neil Bartlett, John and Marilyn McEvoy and many in-laws. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.
