Robert T. Wayne, 95, of Chelmsford, MA, passed away peacefully at Vantage Nursing Home on November 28, 2024.

Born in Boston, MA, on January 17, 1929, Robert was the son of the late Harry and Jessie (Silverstein) Weiner. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen (Leary) Wayne of Chelmsford. Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and often spoke about his time aboard submarine tenders.

After graduating from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1947, Robert went on to have a diverse and fulfilling career. He began by owning and operating a taxi business in Boston before transitioning to a career as a service manager at several auto repair dealerships in the northern suburbs of Boston. Later in life, he enjoyed a second career driving buses for Chelmsford Public Schools. During his retirement, Robert and his wife spent their summers in Ogunquit, Maine, where they cherished time by the ocean, often surrounded by their children and grandchildren. Robert also worked as a trolley driver in Ogunquit, where his humor, jokes, and renditions of Frank Sinatra songs endeared him to his passengers.

Robert was a dedicated member of many organizations throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Boston, the Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington, the American Legion in Portsmouth, and a former member of the Elks Lodge in Chelmsford. His kindness, generosity, and commitment to service left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his children: Ronald Pratt and his wife Joann of Chelmsford, Darren Pratt of Chelmsford, Scot Pratt and his wife Kelly of Chelmsford, Lance Pratt of Westford, Todd Wayne and his wife Hillary of Florida, and Lisa Beck and her husband Paul of Scituate, MA. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Gary Ward of Chelmsford, along with eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his children: Robert (Bobby) Wayne, Richard Pratt, and Kristen Ward, as well as his brother, Larry Wiener, and his sister, Gloria Siegel.

Robert will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, humor, and service will endure in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Bob. He truly was one of a kind. He always reminded me of painting the house on Middlesex St. I had more paint on me than on the house. Rest Peacefully.

I want to express my deepest condolences to the Pratt family for the loss of Bob. He was truly a remarkable man, and I feel so fortunate to have shared a special connection with him. During my time at Vantage Rehab, back when it was still Genesis Healthcare, I had the privilege of caring for Bob. He was my favorite patient, and I know I was his favorite nurse.

Bob had a way of brightening everyone’s day. When I was on duty, he would often sit by the nurses’ station, sharing stories and singing to me. His charming personality and kind spirit touched the hearts of so many. Bob will be deeply missed, but his memory and the joy he brought to those around him will live on forever.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

    To Bob’s family,
You do not know me but I had the privilege of getting to know Bob over the past year, as my mom was in the room across from him at Vantage health. I am very saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. Bob’s presence always brought a lightness to my visits to mom. Bob was a kind soul, always taking the time to have conversations with my family and I. He enjoyed seeing my three little boys when they would come to visit my mom. He always had drawing activities or treats for them and open arms for a hug! It was truly an honor to know him for a very short year.

    With sympathy,
    The Costellos
