To Rosemary’s family, please accept my sympathies on the loss of your sister. We went through school together, starting with the same teachers at Westlands School, and then the same homerooms in Jr. High and CHS. I pray your memories will help you smile through the sadness.

I was so sorry to hear of Rosemary’s passing; still young at 76, but I know she lived a very happy life, and for this I am grateful. She was a very dear friend to my late grandmother, Mildred McMahon. My grandmother retired from the McAvinnue School in 1974, as Rosemary was just a few years into her own teaching career, and they remained close until my Nana’s death in 1992. Rosemary was a wonderful person, with an immense heart, and my whole family was most fond of her. Fennell family, we are thinking of you and send our best!
Affectionately,

Rosemary was a colleague and dear friend at the McAvinnue School in Lowell and the force behind most of the fun we had at that school. She was a much-loved faculty member who ran our women’s bowling league (which included women aged 22 to 68). Although Rosemary was a superb bowler, you didn’t have to have any talent to join that league. The major requirement was the ability to laugh endlessly at our weekly bowling outings. At the end of each school year, Rosemary organized the bowling banquet at which even the worst bowler among us received a trophy. It was all about the fun.
My husband and I are grateful to Rosemary’s for her role in finding a builder who would build the home where we’ve lived for the last forty years. She just wanted to be helpful because that’s who she was.
I remember my interview with the McAvinnue School principal, Lenny Flynn, in which he described Rosemary as a “cracker jack” of a teacher. That expression has always stayed with me because that’s exactly what she was, not only as a teacher, but also as a friend and colleague. I am deeply saddened by the news of her passing. May your memories help comfort you at this difficult time.

That was a kind and thoughtful message that you posted, Mrs. Turgeon. Although this is a somber time, thinking of Rosemary brings back great memories of Nana and the entire McAvinnue group. I remember a note Kay Concannon sent me years ago and she mentioned all the fun you had when “everyone was still here together,” a line that still tugs at my heart. I’m thinking of you, too, at this sad time and I hope that very happy memories of Rosemary find you always – my best to you and your family.

My condolences to the Fennel family. Ms. Fennel was my 7th grade Math teacher in the early seventies at the McAvinnue School She was an excellent teacher which is evident by the fact I still remember her all these years later. I hope I’m remembering this correctly – but during the winter she broke her leg but returned cast and all to finish the year. She was also a great role model for us 7th grade girls.
May she rest in peace.

Sincerest condolences to the Fennel family. Ms. Fennel was my homeroom teacher in the 7th grade at the McAvinnue school late 70’s and always had a great sense of humor. We occasionally ran into each other once I graduated high school at different political gatherings and always chatted about how our lives were going. Such a great teacher and person.. you will be missed 🙏

My deepest sympathies to Miss Fennel’s family and friends. She was my math teacher in 8th grade and she was a rock star. From her long finger nails to her convertible VW I thought she was so cool. She defined pretty & smart and made me, for one believe that girls could do anything. She will be missed.

Ms Fennell was my junior high math teacher. She always went above and beyond. She even played tennis with me in the summer.

My deepest sympathy to Miss Fennels family. Rosemary was my teacher in her first couple years of teaching at the McAvinnue Jr. High, at the time she was the “Coolest”. In my early 20’s I bumped into her at Pollads one night and we became fast friends. We would go out for dinner and/or plays with Mrs. Skracus and Miss McGarrie little would I have know in junior high that these three ladies were so much fun! We had so many great laughs, I’ll always be grateful Rosemary’s was added back into my life as a friend, adding so much to my life.
