Steven Alan Eriksen, 68, passed away in his home on December 1, 2022. To his family, he was known as “Steve,” “Stevie,” “fun Uncle Stevo,” and “Dad.”
Born in Everett, Massachusetts, Steve was the son of the late Walter and Doris Eriksen. He graduated from Tyngsboro High School and received a BS from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Plant and Soil Science in 1976.
He was married to Theresa (Coulter) Eriksen, his high school sweetheart, with whom he celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on June 2nd.
In 1982, he and his brother Walter founded Norse Environmental Services, Inc., where he worked as a wetland and soil scientist until he retired. He was dedicated to his employees, business partners, and clients. He loved his work, especially the long hours walking through the woods and interacting with business partners, many of whom he valued as friends.
He was happiest spending time outdoors with his wife and three dogs, discovering new plants, and listening to tree frogs. He was kind and generous, and his laughter was contagious. He enjoyed presenting gifts, and regularly demonstrated his love for his wife with flowers. He loved celebrating holidays with extended family (sometimes in a dinosaur or Godzilla costume), and delighted in his role as the “fun uncle” who could shower them with the best useless treats. He was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity in many subjects. He was very proud that all three of his children earned doctoral degrees in the sciences, but didn’t recognize that it was his example that inspired everything they accomplished.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Renee Eriksen and her husband, Greg Smith of Salinas, California, daughter Dawn Eriksen-Stapleton and her husband Dan Stapleton of Carlisle, Massachusetts, son Ryan Eriksen and his wife Sadia Hoq of Maynard, Massachusetts, and his dogs Raven, Maggi, and Faye. He is also survived by his brother Walter Eriksen and his wife Joyce of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts; sisters, Yvonne and her husband Michael Walton of Weare, New Hampshire, and Danielle Eriksen of Weare, New Hampshire; aunts, Ruth Whiteway of Craftsbury, Vermont and Mary Selvoski of Bedford, New Hampshire, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and their spouses and children; he is also survived by his longtime business partners and friends Maureen Herald and Liz Deneu.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Humane Society of the United States or the Massachusetts Audubon Society in honor of Steve’s love of animals and nature.
A memorial will be held 4 to 6 P.M. Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.

To the Ericksen family,
I am so very sorry for your loss, Stevie was the fun uncle for sure. Only those who were lucky enough to have met him, and grew up with him in their life can understand the pain of losing him. My heart aches for your loss, and I wish I could take the hurt away from you. My love and deepest condolences go out to you and your family. I so hoped I would have been able to attend tomorrow but I have a version of the flu, which is going around, and I do not want to get anyone sick. I am on the mend but please know I am thinking of all of you in your time of sorrow. I wish you all comforting thoughts and prayers that you remember the good times you will always cherish of Stevie, I know I will soon.?❤️

Steve and I go back a great many years. I met him somewhere around 1981 when he would do soil test and I was the Health Director for the Town of Dracut. Also when I was the Health Director in Tyngsboro I worked with him. He was a true professional and an all around great guy. We had great discussions about politics… him being the liberal, and me the moderate. We always agreed to disagree. We also had numerous conversation’s about our kids through the years, the most recent about 6 months ago. He always spoke fondly of his daughters and son, and of his beloved Theresa. When I saw him last he said he was feeling a lot better and he would call me for lunch…. never got that call, and I can understand why. Rest In Peace my Friend….you were truly one of the Best….
