Thomas J. “Tom” Miskell, of Merrimack, NH died peacefully on October 17 at Catholic Medical Hospital in Manchester, NH after a courageous struggle with health challenges.
Tom was born in Boston, MA on June 22, 1954 to Lawrence and Kathleen (Stronach) Miskell and spent his childhood in Westford, MA with his large and extended family.
Tom is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Larry (Wid) Miskell II, Frank, and his sister Kathleen Miskell.
He is survived by his brothers, Timothy Miskell and his wife, Dini of Hartland, CT, Daniel Miskell and his wife, Eola of Rochester, NH, Robert Miskell and his wife, Debbie of Hudson, NH, John Pyle and his wife, Deb of Woodstock, CT, Brian Miskell and his wife, Sandra of Woodstock, CT. Also surviving him are his three sisters, Jean Sougnez and her husband, Jeffrey of Chelmsford, Theresa Sires and her husband, Earl of Conway, NH, Janet/JP Grene and her husband, Nicky of Ballybricken, Limerick, Ireland. Tom is also survived by his good friends and additional family Kim, Jay, George Jr, Kirstyn, Mason, as well as George Sr. and family. Tom leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Tom graduated from Westford Academy and in 1980 completed an Engineering Degree with the University of Lowell. Tom’s career took him to many parts of the world and he often treated family and other visitors to fun and interesting experiences. Tom ALWAYS enjoyed adventures, especially hiking, camping, canoeing, Grateful Dead Concerts, telling the kids Hobbit Stories, boating (some trips were more successful than others… Brian being left as collateral at the Winnipesaukee Boat Graveyard springs to mind!), spontaneous fun such as the Grand Canyon (Theresa and Tom were told there were NO reservations to camp and Tom said “I bet it will work out …Let’s go!” – After an all-night drive, since the donkey trip was cancelled, they had an awesome, donkey-free two day hike). Tom and Bob’s cross-country motorcycle trip was a legendary adventure. When they arrived in California to stay with our brother Frank, he said they stank and threw them into the shower before he would take them out.
Tom had a generous and giving heart and was always glad to share his knowledge, time, and abilities. He has taught many about photography, astronomy, mathematics, and always saw the potential in others, even when they did not see it for themselves.

My sincere condolences and prayers to Tom’s family and friends. Tom and I were college roommates for a couple of years, frequent commuters between our home towns ( Southbridge for Tom and Webster for me) and we helped each other get through the challenging engineering classes at Lowell. Once we graduated we kind of lost touch with each other and lived our lives but happy to say we re-connected a little more than a year ago and shared some fond memories. I will miss sharing those memories and miss Tom’s gentle and generous soul and personality. I’m a better man having known Tom and I will always be thankful that he was my friend. He will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.
