I have been a customer of The Barber Shop since July 1974. Tim cut my hair on innumerable occasions, as did his wonderful partner, Dave Hamlin. Oh, the conversations we had as I sat in that chair! Tim probably helped me more than my counselor when my first wife decided that she didn’t want to be married anymore and we ended up getting divorced. His simple grace of listening and offering fatherly advice helped me more than he knew. Dave and I always talk about Tim every time I go in now. I visited Tim and Debbie at their home after he stopped working and loved to watch football with him. It was an honor to get to know Debbie, too, as well as Shannan and Keara whom I got to meet at one of the family parties that I was invited to. How I will miss the man! In his 25 years of fighting ALS I never once saw him pity himself. He was polite to all of his aides. My time with him was the same as my time with any friend. The bonds of his disease were no barrier to his warmth and humanity. May he rest in peace, and may his loved ones find comfort in the knowledge that he was well loved by many outside of the family. May our memories will keep him alive in our hearts.

Dear Deb.
We met at one of Candy Costa’s yearly get together. I have thought of you and your husband so often since we have met. I was so sorry when Candy told me that he had passed away. You were an awesome wife and I know you and your two daughters will miss him. Thinking of all of you at this time. It’s not easy to lose someone you love so dearly. My prayers for you and your family and may Tim RIP.

If there was ever an example of a profile of courage, it will be the way Tim faced his ALS. Every time we had the opportunity to stop and visit with Tim, his positive attitude was a shining example of making the best of life. Wherever and whenever we traveled and saw a barber shop, especially the ones with old time poles, we always thought of Tim and took a picture of the shop. We have lots of great memories, and a very special one was our son Derek’s first haircut. (He shaves his head today, not much hair to cut!) A family member that will be dearly missed.

Deb,
We hope you know how much you and Tim have always meant to us. It breaks our hearts to know that he will no longer be with you, Shannan and Keara. We have so many wonderful memories of your family and the times we spent together from Middlesex St., Hampton Beach and all the fun things we did together. Tim will truly be missed by so many but most of all his beautiful family.
We send our sympathy and love to you all,
Dennis and Judy

Tim cut mine and my sons hair for many years until we moved away. It’s so odd to read the obituary as I was thinking of Tim the other day as I knew he had ALS from years ago. I remember he would tell me they couldn’t quite make a definitive diagnosis.
Very sorry to hear this sad news.

I met Tim while working at a gas station in high school. Tim was just getting started in the barber business and you could tell then that he was cut out to be in that business. He had the gift of gab and certainly a people person. Nobody could ever say a bad word about Tim. While working at that gas station with Tim, my brother was working at a barber shop at Hanscom Field in Bedford, he had just finished barber school. Tim was getting started with his barber business in Concord and suggested my brother give him a call, he needed some help. The rest is history. My brother Dave has been working at that shop for more years than I can count. Debbie, you are a wonderful person. Many people would not be able to do what you did for all those years. I hope you can move forward and do some of the things you always wanted to do but could not. Tim, rest in peace.

Tim was our go to Barber over some twenty years as our two boys were growing up. From their childhood through young adulthood he was a special person with a happy greeting and gave a great haircut worth coming home for. Really Tim was a touchstone for many people in West Concord and surrounding towns. Our family remembers him fondly.

Tim started cutting my hair in 1980 and I haven’t gone to anyone else since, until he passed me on to Dave. His business is the epitome of what one thinks of when they mention a “Barber Shop.” The laughs we shared and the great pride Tim expressed when we discussed his daughters and their accomplish-ments. A simple “trim” became an education in humility and compassion. If he had a “previous life” he must have been a Golden Retriever. Be at peace Tim.
