Veronica Theresa Doherty of Chelmsford, MA

Veronica Theresa Doherty, 92, of Chelmsford MA passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Peter Doherty, the love of her life to whom she was married for 63 years. Veronica and Peter raised their sons in Tewksbury, MA prior to moving to Chelmsford.

Born in Everett, MA she was the daughter of the late Hannah Durant.

Veronica graduated from Everett High School with the class of 1949. She was a proud graduate of University of Massachusetts Lowell at the age of 64, receiving a BA in English and graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1996.

Veronica gave much of her time to service for her community. She volunteered at St. John’s Hospital, was a counselor for the Lowell Rape Crisis Center, and was a court appointed advocate for abused and neglected children in the CASA program. Veronica volunteered as secretary for the Tewksbury Taxpayers Association and the Tewksbury Finance Committee, and served as Director for FISH (Friends in Service Helping). Later in life, she was the “story lady” at the Chelmsford Senior Center, where she wrote biographies for World War II veterans.

Veronica leaves her two beloved sons, Jeffrey and his wife Patricia (St. Peter) Doherty of Chelmsford and Terence and his wife Lynne (Triboletti) Doherty of Amherst N.H.  She also leaves her four adored grandchildren: Patrick and Bridget of Chelmsford and Peter and Ian of Amherst.  In addition, she leaves many cherished nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.

She was the sister of the late Mary Allen, Margaret Cahill, Kay DeCoste, Barbara Sandison, Ann Corliss, and Martin Durant.

FUNERAL NOTICE

Visiting Hours Wednesday December 20, 2023, from 2 PM to 5 PM at DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX STREET, N. CHELMSFORD, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Veronica’s name to The Chelmsford Public Library, 25 Boston Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824.
