William Charles McInerney, (also known as “Charlie” or “Chaz”), 55, a lifetime resident of Lowell, MA died Sunday, January 29, 2023, at his home. Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of William and Else (Jensen) McInerney. He graduated from Lowell High School, with the class of 1985 . He then earned certification in Machine Tool Technology from Greater Lowell Regional Technical Highschool in 1988.
He enjoyed building model airplanes and boats. In his youth, Charlie also enjoyed playing baseball and hockey; then became an avid cyclist, competing in the Tour de Lowell several times in the 1980’s. He enjoyed fishing and maintained an encyclopedic knowledge of World War II military strategies. Charlie was known for his quick humor and abiding loyalty.
His love of cycling ignited his interest in mechanical problem solving. Charlie spent more than 33 years working in various aspects of machining manufacture and CNC machining; from prototype to production. He prided himself on quality products and was devoted to his profession.
Charlie worked for the regional firm, Lavalle Machine and Tool during two points in his career and in recent years for larger firms such as Innovent Technologies and multinational firm MD&A Mitsubishi, America. One early project involved the creation of parts for the Alvin; in another part of his career he was part of a team transitioning production to N95 masks during the early stages of the COVID pandemic.
An avid animal lover throughout his entire life, he loved to spend time with dogs and cats, hamsters and rabbits. He cared for or rescued a number of cats, notably Rommel, Mia, Smudge and Loki.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother Patrick McInerney and his wife Lara of Hilton Head Island, SC; his two sisters, Anne Sidel and her husband Michael of Pepperell, MA and Kristina Ickes and her husband David of Candia, NH; his nieces Claire Sidel of Pepperell, MA; Alexis Ickes of Candia, NH, and his nephew Jayden Ickes of Candia, NH and his cat, Loki
