Phyllis D. Clark, Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

5944-clarkPhyllis Dorothy (Hartley) Clark, 87, a longtime North Chelmsford, MA resident, passed away on December 2, 2016. She was the beloved wife of Bernard Victor Clark, who passed away in 1997.

Phyllis was born on December 26, 1928 in Lowell, MA, the daughter of the late Doris and Clifford Hartley. She spent her childhood and teenage years making wonderful memories with her sister, Joan (Hartley) Meagher, and cousin, Judy (Fisher) Chandonnet. She had fond memories of her time spent in Vermont at the house on the hill and Sylvan Avenue in Chelmsford.

For thirty-four years, Phyllis was a Chelmsford schoolteacher who touched the lives of many of her students, just as they did hers, many of which she remembered throughout her life. Upon retiring from teaching, she volunteered at the Lowell General Hospital front desk and enjoyed morning coffee with her beloved friend, Gertrude Sehlstedt.

Above all, Phyllis loved spending quality time with her family and friends. She was quick to offer her love, support, and advice when those she cherished needed it. Phyllis will always be remembered for her witty responses and her facial expressions that needed no words.

Phyllis’s memories live on through her children, Allan Clark and his wife Gail of Sugar Hill, NH, Bruce Clark and his wife Mary Jo of Chelmsford, JoEllen Clark of Chelmsford, and Carol Lee Collins and her husband Phil of Nashua; her six grandchildren, Justin Clark and his girlfriend Kelli Haines, Travis Clark and his wife Allie, Ryan Carlaw and his wife Mira, Andrew Clark and his fiancé Maria, Danielle Lacorazza and her husband Anthony, Nick Carkin and his girlfriend Kaela, and Eric Clark , and “fur-grandsons” , Shadow and Gene; and her four great-grandchildren, Ty Carlaw, Hartley Clark, Bernard Carkin and Kya Carlaw; and her pesky cat, Pepper Jack. She also leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Carol Lee,
You and the family are in our thoughts and prayers. We have a pre-existing engagement tomorrow evening, but we will try to get down. If not, please know that we hold you tightly in our virtual arms until we see you in person.

    Peace my friend.

    • Carol Lee Collins says:

<3 – My Mom always looked forward to Jeff's visits to California and the many times you extended your welcome to her!

  3. Jackie Richard says:

I loved Gma like my own Nana, and always think of her every time I misplace something important, how she’d say a prayer to St. Anthony for me and the missing item would be found shortly after! She was loyal and frank and funny as the dickens and I will miss her.

  4. Bryan Leary says:

I’ll always remember you as a lovely lady, who along with her husband Bernie, raised such a beautiful family. You will be missed dearly.

  5. Brian Tong says:

    Dear friend,

As I read of your loss, I am struck with the poignant pain you and yours must be suffering…and I pray you find comfort in the rich memories of a love that transcends all time and all things. I pray those same memories serve as a soundtrack for the rest of your life, ever present, ever sweet. For in the notes you will hear deep in your soul, your heart will sing again; a song of a mother’s love…

“The tide recedes but leaves behind
    bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
    on in sweet refrains…..
    For every joy that passes,
    something beautiful remains.” Anonymous.

Oh how she loved sharing the holidays with you and Alex and the boys! She said as we were leaving one XMas eve, I have never seen so many presents in my life! Thanks for always including her!

PS. I am coming to Temecula on the 17th … I need my Prestifilippo “fix”, hope to see you all!

  7. Ann Marie Winkowski says:

Phyllis and my mother Gert were the best of friends. They supported each other through wonderful times and sad times. They were as proud of successes in each other’s families as of their own. The path they made crossing the street is surely there forever. Wonder what stories they are sharing now. Love to her family.

  8. Allison Bubert says:

I will always remember with joy and fondness our sweet time together. Oh how we could laugh. Say hello to my Dad!
